To perform the gymnastics skills that you have learned, you have to follow some steps in a particular order.

These exercises below will help you to remember the order that you have to follow to perform each gymnastics skill.

Read each sentence and put them in order.

1. Put the steps in order to perform the forward roll gymnastics skill.

  • Bend down and put your hands on the mat.
  • Bring the chin to the chest.
  • Use the hands to support the body.
  • Make floor contact with the back of the head, not the top.
  • Roll progressively through the spine.
  • Finally, stand up.

2. Put the steps in order to perform the wheelbarrow to forward roll gymnastics skill.

  • Student One, set up in pushup position.
  • Student Two, stand behind your partner’s feet and lift Student One’s legs by his/her calves.
  • Student One, bring the chin to the chest at the same time that Student Two lift Student One’s legs and push forward and let go his/her legs.
  • Student One, roll progressively through the spine and stand up.
  • Switch positions and repeat the skill.

  • Start standing up, facing the vaulting horse and some metres away .
  • Run up towards the vaulting horse.
  • When you approach the horse, jump with feet together, lay your hands at the end of the edge and open your legs into lunge to pass over.
  • Land on both feet on the floor.

  • From a standing position, you lean forward into a lunge.
  • Place one hand on the floor as you feet leave the ground.
  • Your other hand goes down to give you a stable base.
  • Your legs will make a windmill motion.
  • Land first with one leg and then with the other.

5. Put the steps in order to perform the shoulderstand or candle gymnastics skill.

  • Lie down on the mat facing up. Join and stretch both your legs.
  • Lift your hips with your legs stretched. Hips, shoulders and legs should be in one line.
  • Use your hands to support your lower back.
  • Chin and chest should not touch.
  • Breathe normally.
  • If you want to, leave your legs behing your head trying to touch the floor.
