It is important to measure your heart rate (HR) or, in other words, how many times your heart beats in one minute.

There are different types of heart rate (HR), depending on the intensity of the activity.

  • Resting HR or beats: when you are not moving around, as when you are sitting down.
  • Training HR or beats: when you are doing physical activity and it indicates the intensity of this.
  • Maximum HR or beats: the maximum number of beats that you shouldn't surpass for safety reasons. This is the way to know your maximum HR:

Maximum HR: 220 – your age

There are a number of ways to check your HR or beats:

  • Heart: put your palm on your heart and count your beats.
  • Wrist: put your pointer and middle fingers on the inside of your opposite wrist just below the thumb. IMPORTANT: Never use your thumb.
  • Neck: put your pointer and middle fingers on your neck just below the jawbone.
