10. Electronic circuits

The electronic circuit. Components

An electronic circuit is different from an electrical circuit. In addition to transforming electrical energy into other types of energy, it can also process information and control current flow. For example, in an electrical circuit a light bulb just turns on and off. But with an electronic circuit it can also turn on if movement is detected, or regulate its intensity according to the light coming through the window.

Printed and integrated circuits

A printed circuit consists of an insulating material plate where tracks of conductive material have been printed. These tracks connect electronic elements soldered to the plate, allowing current to flow through them.

Today, electronic components have become so miniaturized that thousands of them can be integrated and connected to each other. This is called an integrated circuit, chip or microchip , like the ones you can find in your mobile phone or tablet.
