Starting on the recorder
Let's just remind ourselves of the basic technique
Watch, listen and play
Got your recorder ready?
In this project there will be opportunities for playing other instruments as well as the recorder. But in most music classrooms, the recorder is the main instrument. There are various reasons for this. It is a fairly easy instrument to begin to play (although playing the recorder well is as difficult as playing any other instrument well, as you can see later on this page); it is a good instrument for playing in a big group, because it doesn't take up a lot of space and also because it is easy to play while watching the conductor at the same time; it is not expensive (although the very good ones are);
and it is not heavy to carry in your schoolbag!!!
Here is a video to remind you of the basic techniques for playing the recorder. It is important to get a good basic technique when you learn to play any instrument, because that will mean you will find it easier to play more difficult pieces later on. And even if you have already played the recorder, it is always a good idea to reinforce the basics.
