Our final famous film soundtracks

You may have seen Mar Adentro, the 2004 film directed by Alejandro Amenábar which tells the true story of Ramón Sampedro, who as a boy had a diving accident at the beach in Boiro, Galicia, and was quadriplegic (he couldn't move his arms or his legs) for the rest of his life. The film, starring Javier Bardem, is about his campaign for euthanasia and the right to end his own life.

Because it is set in Galicia, Amenábar used one of the most famous and beautiful Galician tunes, "Negra Sombra", by Juan Montes, with words by the poet from Padrón, Rosalía de Castro. The Galician singer Luz Casal performs it, together with Galician bagpiper and flautist Carlos Núñez.

The next clip is from Rocky, the 1976 film starring Sylvester Stallone about a poor young man who becomes a boxer. The theme was written by American composer Bill Conti.

This theme from Forrest Gump (1984) was written by American composer Alan Silvestri. We quite liked this clip in which you can see the pianist's hands.

Have you heard of the tune "Crazy Frog"? It was composed for the film Beverly Hills Cop, a 1984 American comedy, and it's called "Axel F". It's an electronic instrumental theme composed by Harold Faltermeyer, a German composer.

EXTRA ACTIVITY ON THE RECORDER

This is an EXTRA ACTIVITY for enthusiastic recorder players!!

"Axel F." is a fun tune to play on the recorder, specially if you just play (and then repeat) the first four bars, which are the main part of the theme.

That might seem not very much but it's NOT EASY!!

However, life would be boring without challenges, so go for it!

This video will help as it shows you how to play the notes. Careful with B and E flat! Learn to play them first.

Then play the piece VERY slowly on your own, learning bar by bar.

ONLY when you have practiced a lot and are sure of yourself will you be able to play it up to speed!
