Melodic reading practice 1

Melodic reading practice 1A

gif banjoHere are two exercises that contain relative scales:

- Exercise 1: A minor (bars 1 to 4) and D major (bars 5 to 8).

- Exercise 2: D minor (bars 1 to 8) and F major (bars 9 to 16)..

Remember that relative scales are major and minor scales that share the same key signature but have different tonal centers. Every major scale has a relative minor placed a minor third below its tonic, and every minor scale has a relative major located a minor third above its tonic and they contain the same number of flats or sharps.

Study and memorize the staves in the exercises below. Then sing the notes aloud according to their pitch while performing the correct time signature with the corresponding hand movements.
