ARTICLES: the/a/an: 



THE: 

  • It's a definite article. 
  • We use it before a singular or plural noun.




A / AN:

  • It's an indefinite article.
  • A: We use it before a singular noun beginning with a consonant sound.
  • AN: We use it before a singular noun beginning with a vowel sound.



Examples:

The cat is blue. (O gato é azul). 


This is a cat. (Isto é un gato). 


This is an elephant. (Isto é un elefante).
