JOURNALS AND MAGAZINES

Both in Spain and in Galicia, we can afirm that there are few publications of this kind (magazines) intended for children under six, if we compare it with the situation in France or Belgium. Magazines create readers, and as they have acceptable prices, they create new readers. But they also introduce them into narrative, poetry, comic, graphic humour, and they educate their aesthetic taste, because they have the possibility to know and observe different styles of illustrations.

SOME EXAMPLES

Two very popular magazines were published in Galicia: GOlfiño and Sapoconcho. Golfiño, which was edited first by Edicións Xerais de Galicia and then by La Voz de Galicia, gathered most of the Galician illustrators, as well as scriptwriters, narrators, poets, film makers, art experts, and many more professionals of the world of creation. It had interviews, passtimes, proposals for schools, and a long number of possibilities.

Sapoconcho was born at Museo do Humor de Fene, thanks to Xaquín Marín, illustrator and graphic humourist, and the director of the museum at that time. This magazine also gathered important illustrators not only from Galicia, but from many parts of the world.

Outside Galicia, we may talk about Mister K (belonging to El Jueves), with illustrators from all Spain, and with special presence of comic.

At a European level, Pomme DÁpí, interesting because it is directed to a younger public, who is initiated to both visual and tectual reading.
