BOOKS ABOUT ALPHABETS AND SYLLABLES

In this type of publications we find a great number of elements around the letters of the alphabet: groups of objects, animals, plants, vehicles, professions, famous works of art, countries, and a long list more. The aim is to drive attention to letters, to syllables, and in some occasions especifically to vowels ou consonants. The presence of image enriches the approach to grahpemes, and even more to sounds.

The main function of these works is didactic: to teach the smaller ones to read. However, there are some cases in which letters are graphic excuses to tell stories which are not so childish.

SOME EXAMPLES

An original and creative book with activities. When the reader assembles all the 26 letter of the alphabet, there appears an animal with that letter as initial.

Vowels appear and they are related to animals. Sometimes because their names begin with that letter, and some others because the sounds they make coincide with it. It is an invitation for readers to participate, asking them to "give" letters and sounds.

This time the book is not about letters, but numbers. Making a countdown, numbers from one to ten are learnt through a story of bees, which dissapear little by little for different reasons.
