Creative lab: instruments and melodies
There are three melodies here to improvise percussion while paying attention to all the elements studied in this unit.
Over the Rainbow
1. This is one of the melodies you are already familiar with. You have got two videos. The first one is the melody accompanied by an ukelele so that you have a clear idea of the pitch and tune. The second video will help you sing the melody.
Here's the score to remind you of the notes.
Can't Help Falling in Love
1-You will find here two frequent ternary subdivision rhythmic patterns.
and
. Improvise using them while listening to the melody.
After completing this activity, think about other ternary rhythmic patterns and draw them down as in the video above to create a new rhythmic improvisation.
2- This second activity consists of performing the melody as precisely as possible while the accompaniment sounds. Watch the video to help you be accurate.
Tinsagu nu Hana
1- To practise the intervals that have been studied in this unit, we are going to create a rhythmic ostinato which will be played with a glockenspiel, accompanying the melody of the song. Pay attention to the score and listen to the sound.
2- The rhythmic ostinato will contain the intervals in the image below: ascending 8va interval (C-C), ascending 5th (C-G) and ascending 4th interval (G-C).
Let's see the next videos as examples.

Here's the proposed rhythmic ostinato for these intervals.
3- Our next activity is improvising a 4/4 rhythmic ostinato as the one you have already performed. See the example below.
4- The next task is body percussion. We'll slap our legs (L) and chest (CH) using the ostinato below. Pracise increasing speed before listening to the melody.

Now listen to the sound file again and accompany the melody with the body percussion. Then watch the video to see if you are doing correctly.
