Replacement Syllable System

A great way to read scores faster is the syllable based rhythmic reading system. A note or group of notes is always replaced in the score by the same syllable/sound or syllables/sounds. Easy, isn't it?

Let's have a look at these two scores and their corresponding sound files. Can you do it in the same way as in the sound file? When you find a crotchet you have to say "ta", if there are two quavers, you say "ti-ti" and so on.

Let's keep on working with syllables. Look at the score below. As you can see there is a sequence in notes. First crotchets, then quavers and, finally, semiquavers. Practise saying the corresponding syllables. Use the notes and metronome sound file first and then use only the sound file.
