Cachito

Consuelo Velázquez Torres (Jalisco, Mexico, 1916-2005) was a pianist and one of the most important Mexican composers.

She showed great interest and ability for music as a child and when she was a teenager, she wrote one of her most famous songs Besame Mucho, a bolero which was the number one in the USA for three months. It was sung by famous people such as Diana Kraal, Nat King Cole or João Gilberto and was translated into more than twenty languages. She also wrote Amar y Vivir, Franqueza, Que seas feliz y Cachito, the song you can see in the video. It was inspired by one of her sons and it talks about how much happiness the boy brought to their parents’ life.

Consuelo Velázquez was a member of the Chamber of Deputies in her country for three years. She received the Award of Peace of the United Nations in 1977 and the National Prize for Science and Arts in 1989.
