Rosalía was born in Santiago de Compostela on the 23rd February in 1837. She was a writer and a poet. She lived with her mother in Padrón and Santiago. She studied Arts and Music and was very interested on theatre. She was a very sensible person and she started writing when she was very young. She married an important writer, Manuel Murguía, and they had seven children, but unfortunately some of them died. Rosalía had a hard life. She died at 48 years old in Padrón, after a long disease.

She was a very important poet because she wrote in Galician language for the first time after many centuries. And she was a woman! Her most famous books are “Follas novas” and “Cantares Gallegos”. Her poems are brilliant, and her books are translated into English, Russian, French, German and Japanese! Did you know that there are almost 300 streets named after Rosalía? And that there’s a plane with her photograph on it? At present, her old house in Padrón is a museum and you can visit it, it’s really interesting!
