Thinking green
Rachel Carson was born in 1907 in Pennsylvania (United States). She was an American scientist who studied the ocean and was the first person to say that the environment needed protection. She is considered the mother of ecology and a pioneer in fighting climate change! Her mother taught her about the importance of animals and plants. For that reason Rachel always loved nature. She studied zoology at university and then continued her studies at a marine Laboratory. She worked as a biologist and wrote a lot of articles about life inside the sea. Rachel’s favourite subject was the ocean and she wanted to preserve it! In 1962 she wrote her most famous book, Silent Spring. In her book, she said that pesticides and pollution could affect our planet. She was the first person defending ecology and helping our planet to be safe and clean. She inspired other important women as Greta Thunberg.
