At this point, you will turn into editors by creating your own handwritten tabloid newspaper in groups. Newspapers

not only inform but also entertain people. You can choose from the following list the sections you with to include in

your newspaper, but the first four are compulsory: School news, local/ national news, weather report and sports.

Other sections to complete your newspaper are travel, a comic stripvocabulary games, music reviews, film

reviews, television information, etc.  Add just one or two more and make your newspaper as you like most.

.

Check some advice on the sections before starting:

News: Two different news articles must be written. One of them regarding school and the other one about a

recent local or national event.

For the news use the so-called KISS pattern : Keep it short and simple. Short sentences are always better for news.

Make sure that your news indicate who, when , what, where, how and why.

Weather report: Locate where you live on a weather map and find the temperature for the day in your area.

Sports: Always using the KISS pattern, write some current news about famous sport teams or sportsmen/women.

Travel: Refresh your mind with ideas from the previous CLIL units from this project about interesting UK places or

propose another cool place to visit, wherever you want.

Comic strip: You can create a short comic strip in the entertainment section of the newspaper with dialogues or jokes

about a current affair.

Vocabulary games: Another option as entertainment is create a crossword with the vocabulary learnt along the

project.

Music or film review: Choose a singer or film of your preference and discuss it.

Television information: With the TV schedule for the day or an overall comment about any new TV programme.

.

GENERAL STEPS

First of all, discuss and agree on a title for your group newspaper.

Then, decide what your newspaper will look like, with how many columns per page, what news you will include and who will do the different jobs to create it, remembering that all the group members must write the news articles.

Finally, get down to work to create an appealling newspaper as a whole! The front page should be visually striking in order to grab the eye of readers at newsstands.

As for headlines, you won't use puns as they are difficult, but you can use exclamations or rhyming. Keep in mind that headlines tell the readers what the story is about, grab their attention and leave them wanting to know more.

.

💡 DO NOT FORGET:

- To invent a name related to the school for your newspaper.

- To write the date on the newspaper front page, next to the title.

- To accompany your news with drawings in order to make the text easier to understand and more interesting.

- To check your stories for spelling, grammar and punctuation at the end.

Consider the fact that the newspaper will be read by the whole school (teachers and students).
