LIVE MUSIC 1: Relaxation tips

When you have to perform in front of other students or at a concert, you may feel some "stage fright". There are some things you can do to relieve that nervousness, for example:

  • Practise enough so as to be well prepared.
  • Get a full night's sleep.
  • Eat healthily.
  • Shake out your muscles.
  • Focus on positive things.
  • Practise some relaxation exercises, such as box breathing or visualization.

box breathing

1. Box breathing is a technique that increases oxygen in the lungs and lower heart beats. Follow the instructions to do it correctly.

  • Breathe in for 5 seconds.
  • Hold your breath for 5 seconds.
  • Breathe out for 5 seconds.
  • Hold your breath lungs empty for 5 seconds
  • Repeat this seven to ten times in a row, focusing on the breath.

This technique helps you reduce stress and anxiety and improve your focus and concentration.

Visualizing

2. Imagining and visualizing are great ways to ease mental and physical tension and to control emotions. Follow these steps to relax properly:

  • Sit or lay comfortably in a quiet space.
  • Close your eyes and breathe deeply and slowly.
  • Imagine yourself in a place you love. It may be a forest, the beach, a friend's house, etc. and feel the air, the sounds, the smell around you.
  • Visualize yourself in the scene the time you need.
  • You can use this same place whenever you need to relax your body and focus your mind.
