Creative lab: instruments and melodies
There are three melodies here to improvise percussion and singing while paying attention to all the elements studied in this unit.
Billie Jean
1. This is one of the melodies that has been seen in this unit. First, there is an image with the form of the piece, which has the following pattern: A-B-C.
There are three different body percussion for each part as you can see in the videos below.
Practise these body percussions and join them as in the video below. You also have the sound file to follow the melody while performing the body percussion.
Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
1- This melody is useful to assimilate offbeat notes, so you will need to tap the rests at the beginning of the score in the image below. You also have the sound file to stick to the offbeat notes.
Practise till you can do it fluently and understand offbeat notes. Check your performance with the video.
2- Now it is time to perform the whole rhythm of the melody. Here's the score and the corresponding sound file.
You may use the video below in two different ways: the first one to check if you are doing properly and the second one to help you follow the melody, depending on what you need.
Qongqothwane
1- Let's keep on practising offbeat notes. We are using now claves (wooden sticks). Look at the ostinato in the image and practise it first by clapping, so that you assimilate the pattern.

Extra activity: Decise another pattern and practise it till it can be accurately performed.
Once you are fluent in keeping the beat, examine the score and use claves to follow the slapping line. Here's the sound to help you.
If you want to check whether your performance is correct, here's a video.
2- First sing the melody below, first following the sheet music and then, if possible, doing it by heart. Pay attention to the form: it is A-A-B.
Here's a proposed guitar accompaniment to be played while you sing the melody. Part B may be repeated twice or three times, as you wish.
