1-Accidentals are symbols which modify the pitch of a note. They are placed before the note they want to modify. These symbols are, double flat, flat, natural, sharp and double sharp.
2-A diatonic semitone is the smallest interval between two notes that have different letter names but are separated by a half step.
3-A chromatic semitone refers to the interval between two notes that have the same name but differ by a half step.
4-Courtesy accidentals are not strictly necessary but they are used to remind the performer of the real pitch of a note that had previously been altered by accidentals.
5-In the C major scale, if we begin at middle C and go up to the next C, the pattern of intervals is tone, tone, semitone, tone, tone, tone, semitone. All in all, there are semitones between E-F and B-C and tones between C-D, D-E, F-G, G-A and A-B.
