Reading, memorizing and singing
Part 1: Score
Read the score several times, sing it and try to memorize it. The marimba score that accompanies the main melody is helpful to mark the hand movements as there are three beats in each bar. It sounds like a metronome.
Pay attention to low B and the note combination slurred crotchet + quaver + quaver, which is equivalent to dotted crotchet + quaver!
Part 2: score + sound
Now the same but with the help of the sound file. It is easier, isn't it?
Here you have got the sound file. Try to sing it while the music is playing.
Part 3: Score + video
It could be even easier. Now you have the score and the video to follow it.
Check what you are doing. Use the video.
Part 4: silent bars
It's time for silent bars again. By now you probably know the score by heart. Start singing the melody. This time, when you get to the silent bars, try to follow the melody with your mind while keeping silent and start singing in time with the next bar with music. The second part of the exercise is to sing the notes during the silent bars (don't forget to keep th eright beat). You have got the sound file to help you.
This is the sound file. It will be helpful to find where to start singing again.
When you finish these four activities, in pairs, go through the score again and find the bars where a slurred crotchet and quaver + quaver can be substituted with a dotted crotchet + quaver. Then find the bars where a slurred minim and crotchet can be substituted with a dotted minim. Once you have agreed, check the answers.
Now it is time for this small quiz. Let's see how well you can do it!
