Our Tourist Guide to ...

Dear kids,

You are almost experts about London. What about learning about other exciting cities in the UK and present their

tourist attractions to us all? There are plenty to choose from. Look again at the maps displayed in section 1 (Getting

to know the UK) and start working in teams to design your HOLIDAY BROCHURE for that city.

In the first part of this team task you will become tourist guides.

Here you have an example of the brochure you have to create:

In groups of 4/5 you will choose one UK city (don't forget that you can pick one from the different countries in the

UK, not only England) and you will elaborate a holiday brochure for that city.

.

You must look for pictures  on the web  and a short description for every touristic spot, as in the previous section

about London, so that we can have a clear idea of them all.  When all the teams will have finished their brochure you

will  present it to the class.

The evaluation of this task will take into account the following points: 1. Team work (a questionnaire about your team partners declaring their degree of active participation in the team, respecting others' ideas, helping each other within the team or proposing ideas), 2. Pronunciation , 3. Fluency, 4. Voice volume, 5. Intonation, 6. Use of grammar and  7. Eye contact with your spectators. Remember to practice at home: Practice makes perfect!!

Please pay attention to your classmates' presentation as the next step of this teams task is to exchange brochures to

make a big vector picture for every city. What is a vector picture?  It's a picture with individual objects and icons of a

particular thing, in this case, the drawings of the monuments or things characteristic of a particular city. An image is

worth a thousand words. This is a vector picture for the city of London:

So, in the second part of this team task you will become artists. Are you good at drawing?

we will organise a class exhibition with your brochures and vectors so do your best and enjoy your virtual trips!

.

By the way, Would you like to discover any other UK cities? Go on this virtual tour through the United Kingdom

(choose this country in the list) and try to guess or get to know different British cities ajust as if you were strolling

around them . It is really amazing!  Click on the map with your guess and see if you were right or wrong:

.

USEFUL TIPS:

- Make team decisions : Who will draw/colour the big title in your brochure? What tourist attraction(s) info will

each team member research? and the pictures?

- Include the flag of the country where you city is.

- Mind the presentation of your brochure. It has to be nice and appealling! Remember that brochures attract tourists.
