25th November marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It commemorates the anniversary of the assassination of Mirabal sisters. Minerva, María Teresa and Patria Mirabal, known as ”the Butterflies”. They were brave, persistent women who defended freedom in Dominican Republic, their country. They faced dictator Rafael Trujillo who ordered their assassination.
