Parthenon
The Parthenon was built in the 5th century BC after the destruction of Athens in the Second Persian War. The main architects were Ictinus and Callicrates. They worked under the supervision of Phidias, who was also responsible for the scupltural decoration.
The temple was built on the Acropolis of Athens and it was dedicated to Athena Parthenos, patroness deity of the city.
