Greek Sculpture

Most Greek sculpturesĀ  were painted in bright colours. Painting was frequently limited to clothing, the hair, and so on, with the skin left in the natural colour of the stone, but it could also cover entire sculptures. An unpainted statue was considered an unfinished work without expression. This is quite surprising for us, as we are used to thinking that Greek statues were as white as marble.
