Jazz chants are the rhythmic expression of Standard American English. They were created to teach the natural rhythm, stress and intonation patters of the spoken language to the tempo and beat of jazz.

  • Do you know any examples?
  • Is there a similar chant in your language?
  • Do you like this type of chants?

In this lesson you will learn and perform some of them. Remember to use the beat of jazz either with your voice or instruments that you prefer.

Choose the correct answer for each question to complete the chant.

Then perform it with your partner. One person asks and the other person answers. Don't forget to use your body language!

What do you wear when it's cold?

What do you wear when it's warm?

Where do you wear your hat?

Where do you wear your gloves?

What do you wear on your feet?
