Instruments in popular music

As we have already seen, the most used instruments in popular music are:

- Drum kit or drums: group of percussion instruments that can be played by only one person: drum, bass drum and cymbals. After First World War, the economic resources were limited and families that wanted musicians could not afford to pay for many, so these instruments were grouped together.

- Electric guitar: it has 6 strings. It transforms the vibration of the strings in electric signals and that’s why it needs an amplifier to sound. It appeared because jazz musicians needed more volume. It became the main instrument in pop and rock.

- Bass guitar or bass: stringed instrument similar to the guitar but with a longer neck and with 4 tuned strings like the double bass, its predecessor. With jazz music the double bass was used, but its big size made it difficult to carry it from one place to another, so the bass was created. The bass had the same deep rhythmic sounds and it was easier to carry. And little by little was replacing it, and it’s the one used in pop and rock.
