Popular music
We have learnt about music thanks to our journey in time: what monks used to do in the Middle Age and Renaissance, Bach’s Baroque music, Mozart and Beethoven in the Classicism, and emotional music with Chopin and Puccini in the Romanticism.
In the 20th century we saw how different styles coexisted in classical music, but also how the study of traditional music emerged. But what’s left to discover?
Also in this century, short songs with simple structure appeared. They had repeated chorus and catchy melodies that were very attractive for the audience and became a mass phenomenon. This was called popular music where jazz, pop or hip-hop is included.
Singers and composers of this type of music became very famous thanks to radio and TV programmes, recording an album and video clips. Up till this moment, without the technical advances, this was not possible. Great festivals and concerts started to take place, thanks to the new music industry.
Fan movement began. Not only did they listen to the music but also imitated the appearance (clothes, hairstyles, etc.)
We are going to learn a bit more about this music.
How about going to a festival?
