Superlatives

Consider the following information about the environment:

The Nile is the longest river in the world

The Amazon is the widest river in the world

China is the most populated country in the world

The Vatican is the least big country in the world

 

Classify the phrases in bold type in the corresponding column. The first one is given as an example.

Superlatives

Superlative adjectives (the longest, the widest, the most populated, the least big) are used in sentences where a subject is compared to a group of entities. The group that is being compared with can be omitted if it is clear from the context (all the rivers in the world).

Example: The Nile is the longest river in the world
