Comparatives

Consider the following information about the environment:

The world is getting warmer than in the past

In 2050 the world will be more populated than today

Oceans are as big as always

Rainforests are less big than decades ago

 

Classify the phrases in bold type in the corresponding column. The first one is given as an example.

Comparatives

Comparative adjectives (warmer, as big as, more populated, less big) are used to compare differences between the two entities they modify. They are used in sentences where two nouns are compared, in this pattern:

Noun + verb + comparative adjective + than + noun

Example: The world is getting warmer than years ago

The form of comparative adjectives is a little complicated but not really difficult. Watch this video and do the exercises.
