UN General Assembly established World Environmental Day on 5th June, the first day of a conference in Stockholm on the Human Environment in 1972.

Two years later, in 1974, the first WED was held and since then it has tried to rise awareness on environmental issues, such as desertification, global warming, toxic chemicals, reduction of the ozone layer, climate change, waste disposal, deforestation, water pollution, etc.

Since 1987 each WED has had a different host country every year. Places from all over the world, for example, China,   Pakistan, South Africa, Mexico, Spain, New Zealand etc. have held the activities that are organised to focus on environmental problems and possible solutions.

World Environmental Day has a different slogan every year. Choose the right slogan for each year and place. Use the Internet to help you.
