SCALE-UP ACTIVITIES
Building a Zoetrope
Do you remember what a zoetrope is?
Let's build our own toy. We will need the following things:
- 1 piece of cardboard.
- 2 poster boards: one black and another white.
- 1 plastic glass.
- Glue
- Scissors
- Cutter
- Ruler
- Compass
- 1 pushpin
These are the steps to follow:
1st step: Draw 3 circles with the compass (15cm diameter). Two in the black poster board and
one in the piece of cardboard.
2nd step: Draw a rectangle (49x14cm) in the black poster board.
3rd step: Cut small triangles (2cm) in the black poster board. Cogemos la cartulina negra y hacemos la forma del tambor, con las pestañas para pegar, y las ventanas para que entre la luz.
4th step: Draw the windows (5mm) every 5 cm. Cut them with the cutter.
5th step: Glue the black circle to the cardboard.
6th step: Glue the rectangle and then the other black circle.
7th step: Draw a circle the size of a coin in the cardboard and glue it to the glass
8th: Draw a sequence of images in movement in the white poster board and place it inside.

9th: Join the two parts with a pushpin.
We have our own zoetrope!!!!!

Creating sound effects
Would you like to record your own film?
Apart from images and audio, you could include sound effects. Here you have some examples of how you can make them:
- Hail: Move a can with chickpeas or similar in circles.
- Wind: Put your hands together and blow carefully among your fingers. You can also use a bottle.
- Thunder: Move a cardboard box with batteries inside.
- Drizzle: Squeeze a plastic bag.
- Jam on the brakes: Rub a wet cork on a glass.
- Rain on the roof: Drop some chickpeas over a metallic container.
- Steps in the forest: Put some dry leaves in a box and move your hand.
- Fire: Squeeze a piece of cellotape or plastic.
- Explosion or shooting: Blow up a big balloon and then explode it with a pushpin.
- Load a gun: open and close a stapler.
- Remote-control missile: Release the air of a small balloon stretching the mouthpiece slowly.
- Morse: Use a pen to make the noise .
