DANCING

The dance in musicals

Dancing is one of the parts in musicals, the most important and flashy.

Dance has evolved along musicals history, always parallel to the trends at those times. For example, in the first musicals in the 20s and 30s, tap dance was one of the favourite dances, besides it was perfect for the actors to make an impact (we will practise it in the next unit!). Later on, the steps we learnt in the previous units were included like Rock, Charleston or Swing. And in the most current ones, steps from hip hop or dance music, like in Billy Elliot, where the main character is a student of classic ballet.

Dances were always related to the story that was being told.

In just one musical it was possible to find many different types of dance and that is the most spectacular thing about these shows!

Playing with choreographies!

We are going to create our own choreography for one of the most famous song in the musical Cabaret.

Here you have the audio:

You can use the steps you already know, rock and roll, corporal percussion, waltz… everything we have practised adapting it to the rhythm of the song.
