SCALE-UP ACTIVITIES
Building an instrument
What about going back to Stone and Bronze Age? Would you like to know how music sounded back then?
The best way to start to find out about it is by building our own instruments.
Shall we start?
Let’s try to build a musical bow.
We need the following materials:
- Scissors
- Thin thread or string
- Wooden stick
And we will follow these steps:
- 1st step: take the stick and the string. Tie the string to one end of the stick with several knots to make sure it does not move.
- 2nd step: stretch the string as much as possible and tie it to the other end of the stick.
We already have our musical bow. Now we have to check its sound. In order to make it resound with a higher volume it is good to place it over a surface, preferably wood, because it is where the sound propagates better.
If you want to know how it sounds, press play!
Now using stones, sticks, string, etc, and anything you think existed during the Stone Age, you need to create your own instrument.
Here you have an example, made of wood and string.
