HEADLINES

A good headline tells you what the story is about, grabs your attention and leaves you wanting to know more.   It needs to be accurate and written in clear language.

Read the stories summaries on this worksheet and then write a headline for each one.   Then, get in small groups and share your headlines. Which ones do you like most? Why?

Your teacher has praised students for raising more than 2,0000€ for a charity appeal. Students have held a cake sales and took part in a sponsored swim to raise the money. The head teacher says he is proud of their efforts.

Choose one local news story from your city or town and write the news story.  Then, write the headline for it.

Choose one national news story from your country, make a summary of it and try to identify the 5Ws ( who, when, what, where, why) and 1H (how). You can rewrite  it giving your opinion and stand on the topic,Then, write a headline for it.
