THE PRESS INTRODUCTION
Newspapers are important because not only do they inform us about what is going on in the world but also they may influence current affairs. This influence affects many fields, such as politics, entertainment, sports, crime or the economy.
The Press has also played an important role as a way of watching over human rights both in Britain and worldwide, particularly since mid-19th century. However, to survive the Press has made use of advertising, an aspect which has influenced the content and format of newspapers.
In this unit you will become familiar with the different newspapers in circulation both in the UK and Spain, the different types of formats, and the different ways you can access them. You will study how those newspapers use language to convey ideas, keep us informed and thus influence the development of language and ideas
