Taking into account that the legislation concerns all the fields of our lives ( working conditions, education, taxes, rights and duties...) the possibility of taking part in the legislative power, directly or through our representatives, is a fundamental right.

All through the 19th century, the most democratic versions of liberalism fought to broaden the right to vote in order to achieve the universal suffrage, but only for men.

As men succeded in extending their rights, a wider differentation between genders was more evident.

In any case, half of the population remained out of the political life: women.

The fight to change the law to allow women to vote and run for office was called the Suffrage Movement.
