Let´s create !

Now that you´ve met some women explorers it´s time to work in groups.

  • Each group has to choose one of them and create a multimedia poster (you can use  platforms like Glogster) or a presentation. In your project you have to gather information about her journeys: route map, transport, main incidents, her point of view about colonialism, her achievements....... Develop your creativity.
  • Your presentation could be assessed on the following rubric:

Each group member has to write a reflection as if you were the woman explorer you´ve worked about. It may be a letter to someone or to an institution, a page of a diary....it´s up to you. You can include your favourite one in your poster.

Think About It

When you compare your letters, do you find any differences between your reflections based on the mere fact of being a girl or a boy?

Because of our Euro-centric view of History, we forget all too often the wealth of other cultures in the world.The power of curiosity led our women explorers to distant lands but... what about your curiosity? We talk all the time about the European powers, but do you know that the Mali Empire was the largest in West Africa and  influenced profoundly the culture of West Afica through the spread of its language, laws and customs?
