BOOKS OF IMAGES

Of a very recent creation in the history of books containing images, books purely of images consist of works which are merely visual, without a plot, without (sometimes) semantic relations between the images, whose aim is basically the visual interpretation of basic concepts: one car, one house, one boy, one dog, ... It is the first approach for a baby to the graphic representation of his everyday life. They are the perfect occasion to accompany them in the (so important!) visual reading, so that they can learn to verbalise what the images represent. There are many of them in the market, and they are a neverending source of products, quite often related to brands, films, well-known characters, etc.

SOME EXAMPLES

Books of images are more and more sophisticated: looking is not enough, they must be touched, thrown, smashed, smelt, bitten, ...

Many of them have holes, so that children may put their fingers through them. They have textures, so as to pass their small fingers on it and feel it. Some others are made of waterproof materials, and then they may have a bath with them. They may even have some appendixes to be bitten.

They are a good example of the interaction of books with readers.
