Geología

Conjunto de piedras.

Definición:

Es la ciencia que estudia de qué está hecha la Tierra y cómo cambia con el tiempo.

Ejemplo:

Gracias a la geología, los romanos supieron que en las montañas se escondía oro. 

Termas

Espacio natural con agua en la imagen central.

Definición:

Baños públicos romanos con piscinas de agua fría, templada y caliente.

Ejemplo:

En las termas, los romanos relajaban el cuerpo y hablaban de política.

Aprovechamiento de la geología

La ingeniería romana en Ourense fue pionera en usar la Tierra como una caldera natural.

En las termas de As Burgas, el agua brota hoy a más de 60 °C gracias a la energía que viaja desde el interior del planeta.

Para aprovechar esta tecnología, los arquitectos imperiales debían dominar las temperaturas.

Temperatura

La temperatura es la magnitud física que mide la energía cinética media de las partículas de un cuerpo.

En lenguaje sencillo: mide cuánto vibran o se mueven los componentes de la materia.

En el sistema internacional, la unidad de medida es el kelvin (K), aunque en tu vida diaria utilizas habitualmente los grados Celsius (ºC).

De una a otra

Para transformar estas unidades y realizar cálculos como un auténtico arquitecto romano, debes seguir estas rutas de conversión:

Paso de ºC a K

K = ºC + 273

Si la temperatura es de 25 ºC:
K = 25 + 273 = 298 K

ºC = K - 273

Si el agua hierve a 373 K:
ºC = 373 - 273 = 100 ºC
