On 4 December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly decided that, from 2001, 20 June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day. This day is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world.
Every single day war provokes that hundreds of families flee their homes. To escape that terrible situation, they leave everything behind everything except their hopes and dreams for a better and safer future.
Nowadays, the worst situation is in Syria, a country that has been inhabited for at least 10,000 years. Almost 300,000 Syrians have lost their lives throughout these years of an armed conflict that has created the worst humanitarian crisis of our time. More than 11 million others have been forced from their homes becoming refugees. About 3,700 Syrians died trying to cross the Mediterranean sea.
