Ubuntu Operating System

9.- Linus Torvalds:

Linus Benedict Torvalds was born on December 28, 1969 in Helsinki, the capital and largest city in Finland. He was named after Linus Pauling, a finnish Physics Nobel Prize winner.

While he was a student of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki, he bought his first personal computer. But he was not satisfied with the operating system (MS-DOS) because he loved the Unix Operating System he had already used at the University's computers. He decided then to create his own version of Unix. After months of hard work he finished his Linux Operating System. He posted a message on the internet for free downloading of the new system and he released the source code so that any other software developers could modify Linux as they needed. That way, many programmers helped Torvalds to refine the software and by 1994 he launched the Linux Kernel version 1.0.

Nowadays Linux is probably the most used operating system because it is a free alternative to Windows and Apple.
