2.- John Vincent Atanasoff

He was born on October 4th, 1903 in Hamilton, New York, although his father, Ivan, was of Bulgarian origin. His father was an electrical engineer and his mother was a teacher of mathematics.

He was the inventor of the first digital computer, the AtanasoffBerry Computer (ABC). The computer was first developed in 1937 and first tested in 1942.
The key ideas employed in the ABC included binary math and Boolean logic to solve up to 29 simultaneous linear equations. The ABC had no central processing unit.

Duriing World War II Atanasoff worked with the US Navy, and after the war he continued working for the government, and developed specialized seismographs, instruments that measure the motions of the ground caused by an earthquake or a volcanic eruption.
