2.- WORLD OCEAN:
The larger portion of the earths surface is covered by water. 70 percent of the earths surface is covered by water, out of which over 96 percent is salt water in our oceans. These large water bodies which surround the continents are called oceans.
The "World Ocean" or "Global Ocean" is the interconnected system of oceanic waters. It is divided into a number of principal oceanic areas that are delimited by the continents and various oceanographic features. Let's examine them.
a) The Pacific ocean is the largest and deepest ocean. It extends from the Arctic Ocean in the North, the Southern Ocean in the South, and it is bounded by the eastern coast of Asia and Australia and the western coast of North and South America.
b) The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest and it is bordered by the eastern coast of the Americas in the west and Africa and Europe in the east.
c)The Indian Ocean is the third largest in the world. It is bordered by eastern coast of Africa, the shores of Middle East and India in the north. It is separated from the Pacific Ocean by south East Asia and Australia.
d)The Southern ocean is the fourth largest ocean. It surrounds the continent of Antarctica. It is considered the youngest ocean, geologically.
e) The Arctic Ocean is the smallest ocean. it borders the northern part of Europe, Asia and North America.
