5.- LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE.
If you need to indicate your exact global address you must with the help of two numbers called coordinates. The two numbers are a location's latitude number and its longitude number which indicate the exact position of a point in the Earth's surface.
Latitude is the distance from a parallel to the equator. It indicates how far north or south of the equator a place is located. The equator is the starting point for measuring latitude--that's why it's marked as 0 degrees latitude.
Latitude is measured in degrees (º), minutes (') and seconds (''). Its values can go from 0º at the Equator to 90º N at the North Pole or 90º S at the South Pole.
Longitude is the distance from a meridian to the Greenwich meridian. It indicates how far east or west of the Greenwich meridian (the zero degrees longitude) a place is located. It is also measured in degrees (º), minutes (') and seconds (''). Its values can go from 0º at the Equator to180º.
For example, Ribeira has got the following coordinates: Latitude: 42° 33? 23.34? N Longitude: 8° 59? 31.94? W.
