4.- PARALLELS AND MERIDIANS:

Parallels and meridians form a grid that help us to find the exact location of a place on Earth.

Parallels are imaginary circles running in an east-west direction.
The equator (0º) divides the Earth into two hemispheres: Northern hemisphere and Southern hemisphere. There are 90 parallels between the Equator and each pole. Other important parallels (from North to South) are: the Arctic Circle, the Tropic of Cancer, the Tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic Circle.

Meridians are imaginary semicircles running in a north-south direction, from the North Pole to the South Pole. The Greenwich meridian (0º) (also known as the Prime meridian), divides the Earth into two hemispheres, the Eastern hemisphere and the Western hemisphere. There are 360 hemispheres, 180 in each hemisphere.
