ANTARCTICA:

Antarctica is the fifth largest continent on Earth. It is the continent at the South Pole and it is entirely covered with ice. 90% of the planet's ice is located on this continent.

It is surrounded by the Southern Ocean.

As the temperatures in Antarctica can go down up to -80ÂșC, nobody lives there all the time. No country owns Antarctica. Scientist from many different countries visit the research stations on the continent to carry out experiments. In spite of the cold, Antarctica is home to some animals, for example; penguins and seals.

Antarctica is the driest continent of the seven continents. It is an icy desert with very little rainfall throughout the year. It is also the windiest place on Earth.

Antarctica has the highest average elevation of all continents. Most of the continent is higher than 3,000 m. above sea level. The highest mountain on Antarctica is Mount Vinson at 4,900 metres.
