THERE WAS OR THERE WERE.

We use there was with singular and there were with plural.

Have a look at these examples in afirmative sentences:

There was a cinema in your town Play
There were three chairs in the room Play

To make the negative, add "
not" to "was" or "were". You can also use the contracted forms "wasn't" and "weren't"

Examples:
There wasn't an apple Play
There weren't many restaurants Play

To make a question, put "
was" or "were" before "there". Here you have two examples:

Was there a bicycle? Play
Were there two books? Play
