e) Large Intestine:
The colon (large intestine) is a long muscular tube that connects the small intestine to the rectum. It is made up of these parts:the ascending (right) colon, the transverse (across) colon, the descending (left) colon and the sigmoid colon, which connects to the rectum. The appendix is a small tube attached to the ascending colon.
By the time the contents reach the large intestine, most of the digested food has been absorbed. This just leaves waste material that the body doesnt need or cant digest. The solid or semi-solid waste that remains passes on to the rectum.
Finally, the food waste ("feces" or "stool") that was stored in the rectum, is expelled through the anus.
