MUSIC IS LIFE
I always think that music is a part of life. WHy? Because you can listen to music when you feel good, when you feel bad, when you are happy, or sad. It always helps. Then it is good for creating. When I draw, I usually listen to music, because images come to my mind more quickly. There is some tradition in my family for music. I love it. |
MUSIC INSIDE ME
We know what happens in our heart when we listen to music. But do we know what happens in our ear and our brain?

TRAVELLING WITH MUSIC
Can you imagine travelling around the world---with music?
THere is a group of people go do this. Their name is PLAYING FOR CHANGE. They play and sing songs with people from all over the world. Different countries, different cultures, languages. And then they mix it all.
You can visit their site here: www.playingforchange.com
Watch this video, and then do this:
1. Write the names of all the places they visit.
2. Make a list of all the LANGUAGES and NATIONALITITIES of the places they visit.
3. Sin the song, better in group, with your fiends in class.
"When the night has come and the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we seeNo, I won't be afraid, oh, I won't be afraidJust as long as you stand, stand by me
So darling, darling, stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand, stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the seaI won't cry, I won't cry, no, I won't shed a tearJust as long as you stand, stand by me
And darling, darling, stand by meDarling, darling, stand by meWhenever you're in troubleWon't you stand by me, oh, stand by me"

LET'S PLAY A GAME!
We have three elements:
1. A PHOTOGRAPH
2. A MELODY
3. A TEXT (we have to write it)
Write different stories inspired by the images, but listening to different melodies. You may mak 9 COMBINATIONS of pictures and melodies. You will see that the effect is totally different when you hear some music or another.

Mozart was born in Austria in 1756.
People speak German in Austria.
He was an incredible boy. He could play harpsichord at the age of 3. When he was 5, he was writing tunes.
He seemed to have music in his head. He could pick up a violin and play it for the first time!!!
Mozart, well Wolfgang, had a siter, Maria Anna. She was good at music too. He called her Nanerl.
On e day their father Leopold took them to play to the Emperor of Austria at his palace. Everybody was surprised. How is it possible he can play so well? He is only a child!!!
From that day, the Emperor used to call him the “little magician”.
Mozart gave piano lessons, but he was always poor.
Mozart never stopped writing music. He wrote music for piano and violin. He wrote for orchestras and singers. He wrote for a quartet (4 players). He wrote church music too. He never stopped!!!
In 1787, Mozart's opera The Marriage of Figaro was a hit, a total success But then his father Leopold died. Happiness became very sad. And he composed a Requiem, a sad work dedicated to his father.
Mozart was special. He could write music very quickly. He once wrote an opera in 3 weeks.
He wrote 41 symphonies, funny operas, and serious ones (like The Magic Flute). He wrote solemn church music, and shorter, cheerful pieces such as Eine Kleine Nachtmusik ('A Little Night Music').
Mozart was very poor, and he died in 1791.
IS THIS TRUE OR FALSE?:

His life:
Freddie Mercury was born in Stone Town, in Zanzibar. Did you know he was African? I didn't. His parents were Jer and Romi Bulsara, Persian.
When he was eight, they sent him to a boarding shool in India.
He grew up, and he became an important artist, and also sportsman. When he was ten, he became the school champion of table tennis.
But his real passion was music, so he decided to join a choir, and he learned to play the piano. he had a very interesting quality: his voice could go up and down further than most people.
In 1964 he moved to London with his family, and there he went to an art college. he became very famous with his band QUEEN.
Mercury was ill with AIDS, and died of it on 24 November 1991.
One of his famous songs was I WANT TO BREAK FREE. Would you like to listen to it? You can watch this video:

INSTRUMENTS FROM LITHUANIA
My friend Jolanta, from Lithuania, told us in class that there are traditional instruments in her country, like in Galicia, or in Ireland.
Then she suggested a game:
We don't know these instruments, they are new for us.
So what we did was MAKE DESCRIPTIONS OF THEM.
For example:
It is a wind instrument. It has got two straps. it is made of metal, wood and leather. It is not very big. I like its colour, because it looks old.
