Ten rules to play Ultimate
The Field: Two teams of seven players compete on a playing field about the same length as a football field, but the width is less.
VOCABULARY:
Length: Distance end to end. 23+64+23=110 meters
Width: 37 meters.

Start of the game: Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective end zone line.
VOCABULARY:
Lining up: In the same line.

Zone: Area.

 

Scoring: You score a goal if you catch the disc in the end zone that you are attacking.



No running with the disc: You are not allowed to run while you have possession of the disc. After catching the disc while running, you must stop as quickly as possible. Once you stop, you must keep one foot still, but you are allowed to move the other foot: this is called pivoting.
VOCABULARY:
To allow: To permit.

While: at the same time as.

Once: One time.

Still: Having no motion.

To pivot: To rotate.


Change of Possession:
When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds, dropped, or intercepted), the defence immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.

VOCABULARY:
Out of bounds: Out of the field.

Drop: To fall on the floor.

Offense: Player who attacks.


Non-contact: No physical contact is allowed between players. A foul occurs when contact is made.
VOCABULARY:
Foul: An act forbidden by the rules.


The 10 –second rule: The thrower has 10 seconds to throw the disc. If the disc is still in your hand at “ten”, the other team gets possession of the disc.


One to one: The thrower may not be defended by more than one player at the same time.


One player one disc: The marker may not hit or grab the disc out of the hand of the thrower.

VOCABULARY:
Hit: Beat, slap.

Grab: Remove, take.



Spirit of the Game: Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

VOCABULARY:
To encourage: To promote.

Expense: Cost, price.

Adherence: Obedience.

Joy: Happiness.
