Colour Schemes

They are the  different  combinations of colours.

WARM COLOURS

Yellow, red and orange are warm colours. We associate these  colours with blood, sun and fire.

COOL COLOURS

Violet, blue and green are cool colours because of our association with water, snow or grass.

NEUTRAL COLOURS

They are colourless, achromatic colours such as grey, black, and white.

MONOCHROMATIC SCHEME

A monochromatic colour scheme uses only a hue and the values, tints and shades of that hue.

ANALOGOUS COLOURS

Colours that are adjacent to each other on the colour wheel, e.g. yellow and green.  Analogous colours next to each other on the colour wheel "get along" and are referred to as being harmonious.

COMPLEMENTARY COLOURS

Colours opposite to each other on the colour wheel. Complementary colours exhibit more contrast when positioned adjacent to each other -for example yellow appears more intense when positioned on or beside blue or violet.

SPLIT COMPLEMENTARY COLOURS

It is the combination of one hue plus the hues on each side of its complement.

TRIAD OF COLOURS

A colour triad is composed of three colours spaced an equal distance apart on the colour wheel
